Yesterday, the little miss had a doctor appointment in which we pretended she was 4 months old. She's been on something of an accelerated schedule there because we have to keep going back for weigh-ins.
Two major things:
first, we're going to need baby gates by next month. The doctor watched as Lilyanna flipped herself onto her tummy, held her head straight up, and then began pulling her knees under her tummy and scooting herself forward. The good doctor then turned to me and said, "I don't really look for that until six months. And, I'm so sorry! It's going to be a long year with a baby who is this mobile this early."
second, Lilyanna has only gained 2 lbs. 12 oz. since birth and only another half inch since her last appointment. So, we've been given the green light to start with rice cereal, even though it's a little early. We have to go back in next month to get weighed and measured to see if it's helping. If she's still not growing or gaining, the doctor is ordering many, many tests. In truth, I haven't been that worried about her tininess because 3/4 of my babies have been tall and skinny. Benjamin's growth chart was very similar, although, he grew longer more quickly. And given her father's metabolism and how very active she is, I'm not overly surprised by her growth. I agree with the doctor, though, that it's worth checking out next month if solids haven't made any difference.
In the meantime, we will continue to feed the baby bird whenever she wants.
Lilyanna is a delight to so many of us.
