Another Letter to Barack Obama
Dear Mr. President,
You have done it again.
You interfered with my one hour of escapism per week. One hour. On Monday night. That's all I'm asking for. I really don't think it's too much to ask for you to leave it alone.
You may recall that I was not amused by your press conference which interfered with my watching of House. I appreciate that you learned your lesson on that one.
I am less amused that you took Kal Penn.
Kal Penn, though you are forgiven for not realizing it since I hadn't added him yet, is on my list of "crushes-the married years". I have had dreams in which Kal plays starring roles. (He and a friend of mine were playing a prank on their boss but I was the one who had to break into the boss's house to turn off the fountain. Hm. Does the White House have a fountain?)
To add insult to injury, not even a full week after he was killed off the show*, he was photographed wearing a very boring suit at the White House Easter Egg thing!! Seriously? You stole him for that?!
And, okay, I realize it was his choice to work for you, and it's great that he's pursuing his other passion of politics, but I confess that I am secretly hoping that this is one really long research trip for "Harold and Kumar go to the White House".
Signed,
A Unamused Voter who lives in Franklin County, Ohio and voted for you last time but if you keep messing with House may have to switch sides
*I've delayed writing this so all the people who had Tivo'd that episode could get around to watching it. But if you haven't watched it by now, you're clearly not that serious about it.

A letter to Barack Obama
Dear Mr. President,
Look. I like you. I voted for you. Most of my friends voted for you. I'm a fan. Really.
But, I am NOT amused that you are keeping me from my weekly date with Hugh Laurie and Robert Sean Leonard (hereafter referred to as Pretty Boy). Can't you have your press conferences during working hours?!! Have them while my kids are awake and I'm driving all over creation to pick them up and drop them off and listening to NPR as I go!!
At the end of the day, once they are all in bed, I want to put on my pjs (the fleecy footsie ones), brew a cup of herbal tea, pull out a yummy biscotti and relax in front of the television for one hour.
One.
That's all I'm asking. I don't think it's too much. This is relaxation time. The time when I can turn off my brain and enjoy the wit of Dr. House and the prettiness of Pretty Boy. Even my husband pencils in my weekly date with Hugh and Pretty Boy so he knows to plan a little alone time. I am displeased.
Why don't you interrupt American Idol or something?!
Sincerely,
Someone who will remember this during the next election!

Vote!
Nathaniel and I went downtown this morning to vote early. We stood in line for an hour, but the mood was festive. Nathaniel was pretty thrilled that there was a concession stand and even scored a bag of popcorn to munch on while standing in line. This was the first time in a really long time that I had to fill out a paper ballot. In my town, we have machines. The last three years they've been the touchscreen ones. I like those. Apparently, the city isn't there yet.
Todd and I are a political house divided, but we navigate our differences just fine. The children, however, side with me politically. Probably because they are around me more. Nathaniel and I had this conversation as I was filling out my ballot.
N: Mom, did you vote for Barack Obama?
Me: Yes, honey.
N: Then why are you still doing this?
Me: Because I have to vote for other people too, and the issues.
N: But you voted for Barack?
Me: Yes. Shh.
N: You're sure?
Me: Yes. Shh.
N: Is everybody else voting for him?
Me: I don't know. Shh.
N: You're sure you filled in the oval next to his name and you didn't accidentally fill in the one next to McCain's?
Me: YES! SHHHHHHH.
N: I'm bored. Can we go now since you already voted for Barack?
On the way out, Nathaniel beguiled the news people and gave a little report about how l-o-n-g it took to vote. Thank you Mr. Cameraman and Mr. Reporter. I don't usually watch the news, but I'll tune into yours once or twice during sweeps just to say "thanks".
Tip: if you plan on spending an hour in line with a six year old, don't forget the Gameboy. It was far more pleasant this way than it would have been otherwise.Question: Why do we elect county coroners? Can there really be more than one person who wants that job? And how could politics get in the way? Does a Republican coroner do things differently than a Democrat coroner? Why don't they ever have a county coroner's debate? I can guarantee that I would listen to that one!

Politics
This morning I was listening to NPR while packing school lunches. Nathaniel came up to me and said, "Mom, I heard Barack Obama say that kids are off limits." (Obama said it when reporters wanted him to comment on the pregnancy of Palin's daughter.)
Nathaniel continued, "That means that Obama thinks that robbers and stealers can't take kids."
Mr. Obama, the six year olds of the country are totally with you. ;)
