Risk

I hate it.  A lot.

I hadn't played it in 20 years, so I figured I'd give it another go.  I learned that sometimes it's good to go with my first impression.  Not so much in the case of my husband (since I thought he was a big crybaby), but with boardgames I know what I like.  And it's not Risk.

Survey:

Is there a girl anywhere who actually likes this game?  Not just says she likes it, because she only hangs out with boys and they all like it.   But really and truly likes it?

No. There are many, many other wonderful and geeky games out there that speak to the ladies. Risk is not one of them. Just thinking about it conjures the smells of someone's basement that smells like mountain dew and old socks. Yuck.

I hate it too. You would think with how much I love Catan that I would like this strategy game as well. Maybe its because I was tricked once on a date to play this with a guy and all his room mates. Hmmm cheap and ridiculous date!!!

My older brothers love this game. I loathe it. I tried it once, when it was new and I knew no better. I think I lasted 45 minutes, at most. Now, it's never really fun for me to play a game with these bozos, because they cannot grasp the concept that games are meant to be fun; however, I had always been able to hang on until the bitter end, just to show them I could. Then RISK came along. I'd have gnawed off a limb to get away from this game. No taunt they could come up with would lure me back to this game. It's actually a good idea to avoid being in the same house when they play RISK. The combination of an insufferable game, being played by insufferable creatures (not always, but certainly in this context) is more than any female should be asked to bear.

Um, you may have touched a nerve here. I'll stop now.

I have, luckily, been able to avoid this particular game. And Dave is THE biggest War Gaming Geek I know. WGG. If there is a husband out there that feels the same love for these games, let me know, he needs a WGG-BFF.

I don't think Christian would say no to beers, chips and war games. Just the thought of it gives me the willies.

As much as I like nerds, even I wouldn't fake liking that game, but I do know one girl who does, I'll give you one guess who it is...

Not really relevent to this particular post, but as I was scanning I happened to notice your list of labels. I wanted to let you know that I really, really, really love that one of your labels is "crushes." Just another reason I'm glad I know you.

I think it should be noted that many of those who replied, and I include myself here, are rather aggressive and competitive women. We like games. We like games where we can trounce other people, even. But we don't like Risk. Ever. (Joan, the image of you gnawing off a limb to get away with it is the best way of describing my own feelings about this game).

I think we should let all our husbands/sons/brothers/ex-boyfriends get together for a night of Risk playing. We can eat chocolate and have pedicures and watch movies with hot men in them.

Val-I have no idea. I hate this game enough, though, I'm going to guess it's your mother in law. ;)

Trish- that is officially the WORST DATE EVER!!! My sympathies.

I am ALL for the boys getting together to have RISK-a-Thon, and we can enjoy the aformentioned chocolate, as WELL as one of the hotty man loungy cakes. :)
