Ether Bunny

When I was 12 or 13 I found a book of boy scout skits, songs and silly jokes.

I have been singing the songs and telling the jokes ever since then. Undoubtedly, the jokes that have been given the most mileage are the Ether bunny jokes. The Ether bunny jokes are a series of knock knock jokes that I trot out every Easter time at least. (I also start telling them when I'm up past midnight with people who are stupid tired...or drunk.) The peak audience for these jokes seem to be 5 year olds....though my 8 year old still responds. I also had great success telling them last year to my friend, Brian, but then again he was sitting in a class titled "structured financial transactions", so I'm guessing anything was funny to him right then. My dear friend, Liz, whom was around when I first found the book still laughs at every single telling of these jokes. And I think has even spread the gospel of the Ether bunny jokes, herself.

Everyone else groans at these jokes. Todd banned me telling them to him about five minutes after we were married. I never thought to write that into the pre-nup. Live and learn. (Okay, so we don't have a pre-nup, but I might be for them in light of his first proclamation as my husband!) Some people even go out of their way to avoid me in late night situations and the few weeks before and after Easter. This year I had one friend even threaten to disconnect his phone. (Not to worry! I got him last night, so I was able to continue the annual tradition. He's come up with a sneaky way to take the fun out of it for me, though. He's memorized most of them. I remain undaunted in my happy torture! Hey....maybe these jokes could replace water boarding!)

For those of you who have endured (and secretly enjoyed!) the ether bunny jokes over the years, here's to good times. For the rest of you....

Knock knock!!

These should be told one right after the other to get the true effect. They'll either be laughing too hard to stop you, or groaning too hard. Either way, it's fun!
Knock knock will be shortened to "KK". Who's there will be "WT". They go like this (I feel like I'm passing some sort of mantle of authority, here!):

KK
WT
Ether
Ether who?
Ether bunny!

KK
WT
Stella
Stella Who?
Stella 'nother Ether bunny!

KK
WT
Consumption
Consumption who?
Consumption be done about all these Ether bunnies?!

KK
WT
Cargo.
Cargo who?
Cargo "beep beep" and run over all the Ether bunnies!

KK
WT
Boo
Boo who?
Don't cry! Ether bunny be back next year!

Is that where we got these from?? Because I swear we've known about the ether bunny jokes for forever. But then we've kindof known you for forever. So maybe they can be traced back to you....

It's coming back to me! I totally can remember you telling these jokes. I will pass them along to my kiddos. Taylor and Connor will get a real kick out of them.

I am in love with the Ether Bunny. I am going to memorize them and continue in your grand tradition. Especially since I have a whole host of ears who have yet to hear these fabulous jokes. Besides, I am really sick of Kelsey's renditions of Knock Knock. Who's There? Orange. Orange who? . . .

hi there,

I haven't heard the Ether Bunny jokes since I was a kid in the 80's.

I'm actually making a film about Ether Bunny, which is being detailed on my blog.

I recently learned that Ether Bunny has some very dark and twisted associations (you have only to look on Urbandictionary for that). This film will, unfortunately, touch on both.

i have never heard Ether Bunny jokes before! too cute!

however, M&Ms (or was it Cadbury?) used to have an ad that featured little kids about 2 and 3 and 4 and when they received their Easter baskets, with the advertising candies in them, they would always say, in the cutest little sweetest little voices ever, "Thank you, Ether Bunny!"

i loved those ads, so thanks for the memories! (and the jokes! keep 'em comin'!)
