Lilyanna's First Day of School

So, I'm a couple months late posting this here, but this is a picture of my little girl so excited on her first day of school she could hardly contain her joy! While it looks like she's popping a pose here, this was just one of the few pictures I managed to take that wasn't blurry from her dancing and jumping around that morning.

Here are the less posed looking ones:
"Mom, let's get out the door already!"

"C'mon! Get off the stairs and let's go!"

"Do I have to stand still for a picture?"

"Okay. I'm still. And I smiled. LET'S GO!"

And we finally did go. Caleb and I dropped Lilyanna off at her school and then he and I headed to Northstar for a celebratory first day of preschool smoothie and a side of sweet potato hash.  Of course we brought our school work with us, too. But everything is nicer when you're at Northstar.

Curriculum Night

While attending curriculum night for 3rd grade, I had the chance to look through Benjamin's math workbook.  There was one page that caught my eye because of all the writing on it.   On it were two lists.

1.  Make a list of things you are sure will happen today.
"I will see my Mom after school.  I will play on the playground.  I will do my homework.  I will drink water."

2.  Make a list of things you are sure will not happen.
"Mom won't surprise me by putting a leopard gecco on the dining room table.  I won't have hip hop class at Footsteps Family Dance Center.  I won't genetically mutate into a dragon."

The dragon thing made me burst out laughing while his teacher was trying to explain the huge standardized test coming up next week.  I stopped laughing and looked at her, still smiling about my funny son.

She didn't look amused with me.

It wasn't even October, and I'm already in trouble with the teacher.

First Day of Kindergarten!

Nathaniel's first day. He was SO excited. I only sniffled a little bit...until he got inside.

First Day of 3rd Grade!

Conversation this morning:

Me: Benjamin, would you like me to walk to school with you this morning?

Benjamin: Nah, that's okay, Mom. I'm fine.

Me: But...! Are you sure?! Really.

Benjamin: Yeah, I'm okay.

Me: [sniff, sniff] um, okay.

I wish there were an in between for this growing up thing. Benjamin kind of went from hanging all over me/needing me to Mr. Independent. He's such a great kid, though. I'll miss him while he's gone at school all day. It's such a lot of hours away from home.

Tomorrow I send Nathaniel off to Kindergarten for the first time. This time I know to bring tissues. ;)
