Definition of a Broad

I refer frequently to my Broads on this blog. They are a great bunch of down to earth ladies. Who are fabulous in too many ways to mention. Every now and then I try to quantify it, but mostly can't. They are just good people. Here's an attempt, though.

Today's definition is: A broad is someone who in times of trial, recognizes dessert is a totally acceptable alternative and in fact is preferable to a hug.

Thanks, Broad!

Blame it on Hormones

I am ridiculously appreciative my friends today.

So, to everyone who had to deal with me in all of my PMS-ing glory through the series of fiascos that made up my day, I would like to say a very large THANK YOU!!

Thank you for talking when I needed talk. And talking about something completely different when I needed that, too. And being silent for several seconds when I said, "No talking!"

I wish I had gazillions of dollars and could take us all on a cruise tomorrow.

Alas, I do not. So I give you my feeble, but heartfelt gratitude.

Everyday Poetry

My friend, Katey, and I do interval training at the rec center once a week. Having the chance to combine chatting with Katey with exercise is great. Even if every week I swear it's waaaay harder than last week.

Katey has been sending me emails about our runs in poetry form. I just wanted to share how relatively easy it is to slip poetry into your every day life.

The first one:

Emilia,

Friday at ten
We will walk run and then
I'll rub down my bunion
You'll upchuck fried onion
Just don't play hookie
Cause I ate Girl Scout cookie

Love,Katey

The next one:

Emilia,

This Thursday at 1
I am in a meeting ...no fun
and therefore can't run
really...no pun
But this Friday I'm free
10 o'clock works for me
I'll beat you...you'll see
and I'll do it with glee
-Katey

Most recently:

Emilia my friend,
Workouts I must suspend
Spring break is afoot,
So my schedule's caput
We'll resume in a fortnight,
That should be about right
Until then I vow
Not to eat like a cow
Chow,
Katey

Consolation

Consolation

This morning the newspaper
was too terrible to deliver
so the newsboy just pitched out
a little sheaf
of Kleenex.

National Poetry Month 2009!!

April is such an exciting month! First April Fool's Day and now National poetry month!! Let us move forward with new and excellent material for this year.

It's late and I'm tired, so we will kick off the month with a Haiku sent to me by the fabulous Joan. In her own words "Dogs and poetry, a match made in...well, just read them anyway!"

"I sound the alarm!
Paper boy—come to kill us all—
Look! Look! Look! Look! Look!"

Go here for more of Haiku from the dogs perspective.
I am looking for poems for the month. Send me your favorites. If I haven't done them before, I'll post them.

Snow.

Remember all that snow I wasn't too keen on receiving last week?

We got it. And lots of it. But it was undeniably lovely. And it was sort of fun getting all the ice off of my car. Sort of like peeling a hard boiled egg. Except I've never managed to cut myself on egg shells. Ice is now a different story.

Still, the sun came out and made all the ice and snow sparkle beautifully and I could pretend I was in some other world full of diamonds. Granted, I caught myself day dreaming more than once during the week about hanging out poolside with a book all summer, so I was still aware of reality to some extent.

Fellow Awesome Broads, Heather and Joan, were most helpful in preserving my sanity during the two days the kids had off from school. We swapped kids around and it made me happy and my kids happier.

Zombie Haiku

Sent to me by the awesome and amazing Joan. Yet another one of the reasons why I want to be just like her when I have teenage kids.

Oh. Wait.

Does poetry get better than this?!

Oh, yeah. And Happy New Year!

My Broads

Do you see these lovely ladies?!

I adore each and every one of them.  There are more wonderful broads not pictured here.  One of these days we will manage a real group picture.  For now this partial one is all I have and it makes me smile to look at it.  I could not have asked for a more wonderful bunch of ladies to know.  I am a better person for knowing them.  Love you lots, my broads.

(Pictured and unpictured, alike.)

Blackberry Day

Today my dear friend and fellow broad took us down to her family's farm to go blackberry picking in the hills of Kentucky. The drive was gorgeous, the company even better, and the setting practically idyllic.

First of all, we were made to feel all sorts of welcome by Granny and Granny Tom who swooped us into the house and plied us with home baked goods. Peanut butter brownies to die for! Oh, and the homemade peach pie!! (From peaches picked right there!!!) I may be in love.

Filled with yummy goodness, Granny told Dee and I to go pick while she took all the kids down to the creek. For two hours, Dee and I climbed all over that hill. Did I say hill? Sheer straight up would better describe parts of it. Oi. Nevertheless, we made it through steep climbs, tons of prickers doing their job, and the incredible heat and humidity of the day. In fact, here we are in all of our hotness:

You see all that wetness on our shirts?! It's sweat! I didn't even know I could do that. I'm very excited to go to the gym tomorrow and see if I can do that again!!!

While we were sweating like that, our children were having a delightful time doing this:

And swimming, and getting wet and muddy in the creek. In short, they had a blast!

But Dee and I got these:

Because we got lots o' these:
YUM!
